Land Area Calculator
Calculate the area of a simple plot from its dimensions, understand common land-area units, or measure an irregular boundary using a map. Choose the method that matches your land and the accuracy you need.
What this page helps you do
A land area calculator turns measured dimensions into a useful area figure. For a rectangular plot, multiply length by width. For an irregular field, the rectangle formula is not enough: trace the boundary and use a suitable polygon or mapping method.
Use the tools and examples as a starting point, then verify important dimensions with appropriate equipment or a qualified professional.

Enter an area you already know. This converts units; it does not verify the land boundary.
How to measure
How to calculate land area
For a rectangular or square plot, measure the length and width in the same unit, then multiply them. Convert the result into acres or hectares if needed.
Formula for a rectangular plot
Area = length × width. Example: a plot 50 metres long and 30 metres wide has an area of 1,500 m². That is 0.15 hectares, or about 0.371 acres.
For irregular land
Fields and property boundaries often have uneven sides. Use a map-based polygon tool or record boundary points, then review the outline before relying on the calculated result. Avoid estimating an irregular field as a rectangle unless that approximation is appropriate.
Understand accuracy
Results depend on the quality of your dimensions, boundary points, map imagery and GPS signal. Field Measure Pro provides practical estimates; it is not a substitute for a legally certified cadastral survey or a licensed surveyor where one is required.

Common questions
What is the formula for land area?
For a rectangle, area equals length multiplied by width. Irregular plots need a polygon or survey method.
How many square metres are in an acre?
One international acre is exactly 4,046.8564224 square metres.
Can I measure land from my phone?
You can use a map-based tool or phone GPS to estimate an area. Accuracy varies with the device, map data and method.
